Juan Arias about Paulo Coelho
|
Huan Arias, a journalist and a writer is the author of several books among which there are especially known " The God in Whom I do not Believe", " The Plain Pray ", translated into 8 languages, and also " Riddle of Voitila", " Falling of Mussolini's mode", "The Unique God for the Pope", " Fernando Savater: Art to live " and " Zhoze Saramago: the Love is possible".
Will there be among admirers of "Alchemist" and "Veronica", " The Warrior of light " and "Miss Prim", " The Fifth mountain " and " On the bank of the Rio-Pjedra " people who are not interested in this warrior and magician, this surprising person - Paulo Coelho? Probably, there are people for whom it is enough to have a creation and who absolutely don't want to know anything about the creator. And still, nevertheless... what is the secret of his success, why doesn't he leave anybody indifferent?
These conversations - confessions with Paulo Coelho took place in Rio de Janeiro, in the house of the writer with a view on marvelous beauty beaches of Copacabana. It was at the beginning of July, 1998, during the high season of the world football championship in France. And conversations of Huan Arias and Paulo Coelho interrupted only when the writer looked matches, - he wrote about them articles for the French press.
They were very frank talks. For the first time Coelho told about the most tragic events of his life: about wanderings in narcotic desert, about black magic, about a psychiatric clinic, about prison and tortures. After that the writer told, that now he would not tell to anybody any more about his life during the next twenty years …
"One of the most exciting moments there was the moment when he telling about spiritual experience which he had gone through in a German concentration camp of Dachau, Coelho began to cry … And the most joyful was the moment when his wife Christina got a white bird's feather and gave it to her husband: "Look, Paulo, what I have found!"
"In this book I have tried to keep easy tone of our friendly chats with the writer. At times in conversations polemic tone sounded and when the atmosphere of some special sincerity appeared, they became to look like a confession. As a token of trust to me Coelho did not begin to check the text of the book, having assigned the responsibility on me. Therefore any mistake which can take place in it is only my fault", - speaks Huan Arias.
